86 SECONDS OF HELL

It was like Trump built a wall around Ottawa’s defensive zone.

For 86 seconds, the Senators couldn’t get the puck out. The Penguins made a full line change: From Malkin’s unit to Bonino’s unit. The Penguins completed 17 passes. Had eight shot attempts. Collected eight loose pucks. Cycled down low, occasionally getting the puck to the point to stretch Ottawa.

Eventually, the puck left the zone: It was dropped at center ice after Bryan Rust scored to give the Penguins a 3-0 lead at 16:04 of the first period.

The Penguins were totally dominant – and not just on that shift, as their 7-0 victory indicates. It’s a drastic reversal from Games 1-3, when the Sens so often (but not as dramatically) penned the Penguins in their end.
